Seven Wonders of the World Poster for Kids

The new Seven Wonders of the World were chosen in 2007. It  is a people’s choice list. A Swiss firm started a campaign for a new seven wonders of the world and used the Internet collect people’s voles. Over 100 million people participated in the poll. Here is the list of Seven Wonders of the World

The Great wall of China

Thjs is one of the world’s largest building projects. The Great wall of China is thought to be about 8850 Km long. A Chinese study claims it to be 21200kms.The work for this wall began in the 7th century BCE and it continued for 2 millennia.

The wall’s purpose was to prevent invasions and raids.Although called the wall, the structure actually has two parallel walls and and many intermittent watch towers and barracks

Chichen Itza

Chichen Itza is a Mayan city that flourished in the 9th and 10th century CE . The most notable structure here is the pyramid El Castillo.  The structure features 365 steps, the number of days in a solar year. This is a testimony to the Mayan people’s astronomical anilities.The stepped pyramid rises 79 feet above the main plaza. Itzá is home to the largest sporting field called tlachtli.On that field the residents played a ritual ball game.

Petra

The ancient city of Petra Jordan is located in a remote valley, between sandstone mountains and cliffs.  The Nabateans an Arab tribe made it their home The Nabataeans chiseled dwellings, temples, and tombs into the sandstone, which changed color with the shifting sun.  It was noted for its spice trade.. The city began to decline as trade routes shifted. A major earthquake in 363 CE caused more difficulty, and after another tremor hit in 551, Petra was gradually abandoned.

Machu Pichu

It is a Incan ruin in Peru. Most archeologists don’t know what purpose it served.It is an isolated ruin in the Andes mountains.. The ruins has agricultural terraces, plazas, residential areas, and temples.

Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer is a really large statue of Jesus Christ. It stands on Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro. It was built juts after World War I. It is the largest Art Deco sculpture in the world. Christ the Redeemer is made of reinforced concrete and is covered in approximately six million tile

The Colosseum Rome

The Colosseum in Rome was built in the first century by order of the Emperor Vespasian. A the amphitheater measures 620 by 513 feet (189 by 156 meters) and features a complex system of vaults. It was capable of holding 50,000 spectators, who watched a variety of events. Gladiator fights took place here. Men battling animals was also a common sport.

Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal is a 17th century mausoleum in Agra India. It is an example of Mughal architecture. It was built by Emperor Sha Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal . . It took about 22 years and 20,000 workers to construct the complex. There is an immense garden  with a reflecting pool.. The mausoleum is made of white marble that features semiprecious stones in geometric and floral patterns.
