Short Stories for Kids on Fear and Guilt

Short Story one:   Tip Tip Tip!

Marina and Martin were cousins. They studied in the same school. Their fathers were brothers, they ran a family business. They all lived together. Everyday, their parents would go out to their shops in the morning and come back only in the night. After coming back from school, Marina and Martin would finish their homework  and wait for their parents to return.

The rainy season would bring a lot of rain to their place. On one such rainy day, as usual they both came back from school and started doing their homework. The power went off.  It became very dark. The rain had just stopped. So, the whole neighbourhood seemed very silent. They lit the candles and continued doing their work. Suddenly they heard a strange sound! “TIP, TIP,TIP..” they stopped their work and tried to concentrate what it was! The sound stopped. They again continued their work. Within a few minutes again the sound started. This time it was faster and louder. They both got scared. They tried to reach their parents, but because of the rains the mobile network had become weak. They could not connect. The noise did not stop.  They had no choice but to go out and see what it was. They took a torch and slowly started to walk towards the place where the noise was coming from. They both got more scared when they learnt that the noise was coming from inside a store room which they very rarely opened. But they were sure that the noise was coming from that room. They went to the hall and took the keys of the room. Both were shaking. But they had no choice as the sound was loud and they could not ignore it. Martin opened the key and Maria was ready to beam the torch into the room. Slowly Martin opened the door. They opened it bit by bit. The room was very dark. Frightened, they stepped inside the room. Maria scattered the torch light everywhere in the room. Then she beamed the torch to the ceiling. Then they saw that there was a leakage in the ceiling because of which the rain water was dripping down. It was falling on some vessels which they had kept in the store room. And this was the cause for the strange noise!

They both were proud of themselves for doing such a task. They were never afraid of the dark from then

Short Story Two: The Cows and Their Master

Sita and Kaveri were cows living in a village called Palampur. It was a small village near a forest. There were only a few houses. It was a quiet place. Every day, Sita and Kaveri used to walk a few miles to a mountain, grazed grass and come back home by late afternoon. They were looked after well by their master. But he was a little strict. Some days, the cows felt like lying down on the soft grass of the mountains. But the master would not allow it.He insisted on them following a routine.

One day, they met another cow while grazing grass. That cow said that she was from the neighbouring village. The two cows were surprised to hear that. Sita asked the  new cow as to how her master had allowed her to walk this far? The other cow replied that her master was a good man. He gave her a lot of freedom. Sita and Kaveri felt bad. The other cow added that there was a farm nearby where they could get the finest grass. She asked if they can go along with her to the farm. But the two cows denied by saying that their master would not allow them. But the new cow persisted and they agreed to go with her and return on time so that the master would not find out.

But after walking for some distance, they understood that they could not reach their home on time. They were scared that their master would scold them. They immediately started back. But they lost their way.

Meanwhile, their master was already searching for them. He found them and took them back home. The cows felt guilty for their deed. Both promised each other that they will never get lured by such things.

Moral of the Story

Sometimes our teachers or even parents seem to be strict. But it is all for our good. We should believe that. They do that for a reason. If we listen to them and learn what they teach us, we will improve and become better.
