Short Stories for Kids on honest hard work

Short Story One:  Chatur the fox learns the value of hardwork

Once upon a time, there lived a clever jackal named Chatur. He had made his home in the forest, close to a village. One day, Chatur saw a farmer ploughing a field, and he had a brilliant idea. He thought he could trick the farmer into leaving the field, so he could feast on the animals in the farm.

He ran up to the farmer and said, “Oh, farmer! I see you’re ploughing this field. You’d better leave it alone, because it’s an old burial ground!” The farmer was terrified and quickly ran away. Chatur was thrilled with his success and immediately began to look for the hens and the sheep

Just then a large tiger appeared from nowhere and roared loudly. Chatur had to run very fast to save himself. As he was running, he realised that one can never get what one wants easily. He realised that he had cheated the farmer and because of that the ill gotten fruits of victory were truly neer his.

Chatur promised himself that he would never cheat others and would work hard to earn his food

Moral of the story:

This story is from the Panchantantra tales. The point of the story is that when you do bad, bad things happen to you. And when you do good things, good things happen

Short Story Two:  Two Brothers

Once upon a time, there lived a farmer in a small village. He had two sons, one named Ratnakar and the other named Ramakant. Ratnakar was an intelligent and hardworking boy, but Ramakant was lazy and did not pay attention to his studies.

One day, Ratnakar asked his father to teach him the art of farming. The father agreed and taught him the basics. Ratnakar was soon a skilled farmer and began to earn a good living. Meanwhile, Ramakant was jealous of his brother's success and felt bad that he had not been able to learn farming like Ratnakar. So one day, Ramakant went to his father and asked him to teach him some trick to make money.

The father then told him the story of a jackal who had been able to make a lot of money by lying and cheating. He said that Ramakant could also try to make money in the same manner or work hard like his brother. But, Ramakanth hated hardwork and he chose the easy option. So Ramakant started to lie and cheat to make money. He was soon able to make a lot of money. But one day, he was caught in the act and was punished for his actions. Ratnakar, on the other hand, continued to work diligently in the farm and was able to make a good living without resorting to lies and cheating.

Moral of the story:

Hard work and honesty are the keys to success.
