Short Story one: Work without expectations

There was a small village near Udupi district in karnantaka.  The village was on the bank of backwaters of Arabian sea. Most of the people in the village were involved in fishing and related activities. The village was a busy place. The village head Ramappa was holding majority of business transactions.

One day the village head called a painter and asked him to paint the boats. There were around 10 of them. The painter started to paint. While painting one of the boats he noticed a hole in the boat. Immediately, he brought the materials and tools and fixed the boat and then painted it. After painting all the boats, he took the money from the village head and went away.

After a few days the head again asked the painter to meet him. When the painter visited the head, he greeted him and thanked him. He also gave a bag full of money. The painter did not understand th e reason behind this. Then the village head said he had completely forgotten to mention about the hole in the boat. And that boat was a very important as one of his biggest orders was transported in the same boat. If the painter had not covered the hole, then it would have turned to be a major mishap.

The painter first did not accept the money, but the village head insisted him to take. The village head said that he could never forget the incident in his life and finally the painter took the money

Short Story Two:  Shreya and her plants

Shreya was a 5-year-old girl. She was a talkative girl. She was studying in senior KG. One day there was a small function at her place. Her parents had ordered fresh flowers as  an offering to Gods. There were jasmine, roses and marigold flowers. Her mom had neatly decorated them. Some flowers were tied up in a line like a garland and some were arranged in a basket in a decorative manner.  Even after the function, the flowers were fresh. So, Shreya picked up some flowers and put them in a mud pot and took them to her room. She then waited for the plants to grow. Many days passed, nothing grew in the pot. She was very sad.

Shreya went to her mother and said that may be the plant does not like her and that is why it was not growing. Her mother smiled and explained that – only plotting a flower will not make the plant grow. To make her understand her mom brought a small sampling of marigold from a nursery and planted it in the pot. She asked Shreya to water the plant every day. She placed the pot where it received good sunlight. After many days, the plant began to grow. After a couple of months, the plant started to produce flowers!

Seeing the flowers made Shreya happy. she also understood that growing a plant is like a small process. There were many requirements which needed to be followed. From then, she made it a point to plant at least one plant in a month.

Parenting Takeaway:

Gardening is a very good hobby. It requires patience and effort to grow plants. Everyday we need to keep a tab on the same. But when we see the plants giving yield, we get immense satisfaction. We can also learn the values like caring, nurturing and loving when we grow plants. Kids also learn a lot about delayed gratification when they get involved in the garden
