Short Stories for Kids - Friends Help Each Other

Four strange buddies made their home in the heart of a forest. A deer, a crow, a mole, and a tortoise made up the group of four buddies. Every afternoon they would get together under a shady banyan tree and converse for hours.

The deer once failed to show up at their customary time. Concerned were the mole, tortoise, and crow. "I think you better fly around and see where the deer is," the mole said, turning to the crow. The crow nodded and took off

She did not need to travel very far to locate the deer. The deer was, regrettably, caught in a hunter's net! "Deer friend! What happened? demanded the crow.

I am usually quite careful about where I tread, the deer groaned. However, this net was well-covered. I am now confined. The hunter will arrive soon, it is only a question of time.

The crow answered, "I will get some help," and she flew off. The mole and tortoise were waiting for her when she hurriedly flew to the banyan tree. She explained everything that had taken place.

The mole instructed the tortoise, "Friend Tortoise, you wait right here. I will go with the crow and cut the net our friend is caught in with my sharp teeth."

The crow immediately flitted to the area where the deer was imprisoned while holding the mole in her beak.

The deer was delighted to see his buddies. The mole started tearing the net apart. Though laborious, the deer was soon set free. The deer shouted out as he emerged from the net, "Thank you friend mole!"

“Ah! It appears that our friend is free," a voice from the bushes said. The slow-moving turtle was the one who had arrived there.

The hunter showed up at the same time. The deer moved quickly. The crow soared off. The mole built a hole for cover fast. The turtle was too slow, though.

The hunter was astounded to discover the cut in the net. But then he caught sight of the turtle moving slowly. He tied the tortoise up with a rope and said to himself, "I lost the deer, but this tortoise will make a fine soup."

“Oh no! Our pal is gone. the bird cried.

The mole smiled and communicated a plan to his two pals, "No, there is still hope,"

The hunter rode back to the village while carrying the tortoise on his back. He passed a lake on the way. He noticed a deer's body in the grass. On the deer's antlers, a crow was perching and picking at his eyes.

The hunter was astonished by his good fortune. "I lost a deer, but it appears I have discovered another one! And this one I do not even have to kill," he told himself.

The turtle grinned. Friends of his had come to save him.

The hunter walked away from the tortoise and sprinted in the direction of the deer. The mole easily cut the rope as it fled from the bushes. The tortoise was uninhibited! The mole said, "Friend tortoise, flee!". He walked  swiftly to the lake for a tortoise.  The hunter was getting close to the deer at this point. The tortoise was now secure in the water, as the bird could see. She screamed "Caw! Caw!" before taking off.

That was the signal ! The deer stood up and bolted towards the woods. There was no way the hunter could capture him. He also discovered the tortoise missing when he turned around!Back at the banyan tree in a hurry were the four friends. The tortoise thanked his buddies for saving his life.

The deer grinned and added, "No thanks necessary, as long as we assist one another.other, we will be secure always."
