GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE

The five geographic regions of Georgia are The Valley and Ridge, the Appalachian Plateau, the Blue Ridge region, the Piedmont region, and the Coastal Plain.

Due to its location at subtropical latitudes, Georgia has a climate characterized by long, hot, and humid summers and short, usually mild winters.

Georgian culture is an exotic, mysterious, and ancient culture stretching back for millennia. Georgian monumental architecture, world-famous polyphonic singing, and traditional music, book miniature, rich spiritual and secular literature, colorful folk dances and ballet, theatre and cinema, jewelry, metal works, enamels, and paintings all bear trademark qualities of this ancient culture.

THE FLAG

The flag of Georgia is also known as the five-cross flag. The flag represents a white cloth with five red crosses, one central and four equilateral crosses in the four quadrants. The cross represents the general Christian symbols that embody Jesus Christ the Savior and the four evangelists.

FLORA AND FAUNA

In Georgia, there are 3,600 species of native wild plants. The trees are represented by broadleaved species: oaks, hornbeams, chestnut trees, maples, beeches, evergreen rhododendrons, cherry laurels, boxwoods, and Caucasian bilberry. Of course, Georgia has many other trees, including ash, gum, chestnut, and buckeye. American beech, Sugarberry, American Yellowwood, holly, Eastern Red Cedar.

The fauna of Georgia is represented by more than 100 species of mammals, 330 kinds of birds, and 160 varieties of fishes. There are abundance and variety of bird-like, the bearded vulture, the golden eagle, the griffon, and the black vulture. Mammals like the Caucasian deer, the roebuck, the wild boar, the hare, the squirrel, the brown bear, the wolf, the jackal, the badger, and the lynx are found. The mountain streams and lakes are rich in trout, barbel, and carp.

Football is, definitely, the most popular sport in Georgia. Other most popular sports in Georgia are football, basketball, rugby union, wrestling, judo, and weightlifting.

TOURIST ATTRACTION

Vardzia cave monastery: Vardzia cave town is an ancient cave settlement on the slopes of the Erusheti mountains in Georgia. It is both a historical monument and an active place of worship. Vardzia is a massive complex of man-made caves hewn from a sheer rock wall. At its zenith, the complex had more than 6,000 rooms on 19 levels that served all kinds of purposes
