Vivid yellow to orange throat is its distinguishing feature
It lives in the hills of Nilgiris and parts of the Western Ghats. There have been reports of sightings in coffee, cardamom, wattle plantations, swamps, grasslands, deciduous forests, and montane-evergreen forests.

As a marten, they have a high basal metabolic rate. Their coat color is brown with a very distinct yellow or orange throat patch.

They found the animal to be active throughout the day, but highest activity was noted between 9 and 11am in the morning and again in the evening between 3 and 5 pm.
