The Terrace of The Lions was built over 2600 years ago in honour of the Sun God Apollo. Facing east, these roaring lions were supposed to be the guardians of the sanctuary of Apollo. Their mouths are open and roaring to inspire a divine fear in the worshipers.
They are located in Delos, Greece the birthplace of Apollo. The number of lions is estimated to be between 9-16.
Only 5 lions survived and from 3 other lions fragments exist.
