Ten space facts that will blow your mind

Saturn is the one planet in the solar system that is lighter than even water. So if anyone could make a water tub big enough to hold it, it would actually float in water.

The sun set on Mars would appear blue to the human eye. The dust particles in the planet are likely to make the blue in the sunlight more visible.

Venus’ day is longer than its year. It takes about 225 Earth days to revolve around the sun. But it is very slow on its own axis. It takes 243 Earth days to do this

The solar mass (M☉) is a standard unit of mass in astronomy, equal to approximately 2×1030 kg. It is approximately equal to the mass of the Sun

If two pieces of the same type of metal touch in space, they will permanently bond. In space, these two pieces of metal wont know they are different. This doesn’t happen in earth because of the air and water found between the pieces

Cygnus X-1 was the first black hole discovered in the 1960’s, and it’s 10 times more massive than the Sun.

Neptune’s winds are the fastest in the solar system, reaching2,575 kilometers per hour (1,600 miles per hour)! Neptune’sgiant, spinning storms could swallow the whole Earth.

Space junk is any human-made object orbiting Earth that no longer serves a useful purpose. Scientists estimate there are about 500,000 pieces of space junk today, including fragments from rockets and satellites, and everyday items like spanners dropped during construction of the International Space Station!

If you could fly a plane to Pluto, the trip would take more than 800 years!

You wouldn’t be able to walk on Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus or Neptune because they have no solid surface!

Comets are leftovers from the creation of our solar system about 4.5 billion years ago – they consist of sand, ice and carbon dioxide.
