Short Stories for Kids with morals - Pride and Honesty themes

Short Story one : Arrogance and Pride can lead to disaster

There was a beautiful pond near the foothills of the Himalayas. In the pond, lived many golden swans! Their feathers used to shine in the sunlight and glow in the moonlight.Hundreds of people visited the pond just to see the swans. The king of that place used to have a collection of golden feathers, it was like a symbol of pride for the kingdom.

The swans were very proud of themselves, so much so that it affected their relationship with others. They were very arrogant and rude to other creatures living around the pond. They used to not even allow them to drink water or play in the pond.

One day a homeless bird came to the pond and asked for a small place to stay But, the swans arrogantly said that the pond was a place for a beautiful bird like a swan but not for an ugly homeless bird! The bird got furious and went directly to the king and complained about the swans.

The king was shocked to know that the swans were treating the other creatures in this manner.

He immediately went to the pond with the soldiers. He ordered the swans to get away from the pond and never return as, there was no place for such selfish and mean creatures in his kingdom.

Moral of the short story

Excessive pride and arrogance is not good for us. We need to to learn to be friends with others and not merely focus on our own looks and be proud, arrogant and haughty.

Short Story Two: Cheating never Pays

In the not so busy streets of Bangalore, there was a garden. Peter and paul were 2 crows living in the garden along with many others. Paul was mild and soft-natured. Peter was a little stubborn.  He was jealous of Paul.

One day, Peter got a wicked idea. He invited Paul for a flying race but with a twist. The twist was that they had to carry a bag full of grains and fly. Whoever could win would get a prize. Paul agreed. While doing the preparation, Peter filled his bag full of cotton and filled Paul’s bag with salt!

On the race day, all the birds in the garden came to watch . Paul found it difficult as salt was heavier than cotton. Peter took a great head start. Bu.t after some time it started to drizzle. Both the birds could not fly faster, so they began to come down towards the tree. But Peter’s bag of cotton soaked up as the raindrops and grew heavy. On the other hand, the salt in Paul’s bag melted away in the rain and became very light. Paul flew faster and thus won the challenge.

Moral of the Short Story:

Cheating never gets us anywhere. We may sometimes win in the short term. But in the long run honesty and hardwork always pays
