Short Stories for kids on being humble

THE PROUD TEAK TEA

In a lush green forest, there were big and strong trees. There were many flowering plants, herbs, shrubs and bushes too. All plants lived in harmony with each other, except the big trees. The big trees were really proud of themselves, as it was home to many birds and animals. They thought they were the ones who made the forest. The big trees neglected the small plants always.

Among the big trees, the proudest was the teak tree. The teak tree was proud and kept boasting about it to other trees. The other big trees did not like him, nor the small ones. The teak tree never asked about anyone’s well-being. But never missed an opportunity to boast itself.

The teak tree always said that he was the most handsome and strong among all the trees in the forest. Hearing this the small herbs said, “Too much pride is harmful, even the strong will fall one day”. As usual, teak ignored the words of the herbs and continued to live in pride.

The summer season was about to end and the forest was expecting a rainy season. The herbs and other small plants were worried about the rainy season, but they knew they would withstand it.

For the bigger trees, all seasons are the same. The big teak tree never worried about any season and kept cool. Because he knew that nothing could uproot him, as he was very strong and mighty.

The rainy season started. The herbs started bowing low as the rain and wind blew. Seeing this the teak tree made fun of the herbs. The teak tree stood strong by spreading its branches. As days passed by the rainy season was at its peak.

One day there was a storm in the forest. The herbs and other small plants started bowing low. The teak tree did not want to bow. It stood firm by spreading its branches. The storm grew stronger by night. The wind was blowing at a great speed. all plants braced themselves for a calamity. The rain poured all night and a strong wind blew steadily. The thudding of big trees and their branches was heard all over the forest.

The herbs bowed as low as possible and with great difficulty managed to hold firm to the soil. The bowing really helped them to survive the strong winds. It was morning now. The storm is gone. In front of the herbs lay the mighty teak tree uprooted. The teak tree did not bow, it could not hold on for a long time against the winds and as a result, it was uprooted. That was the end of the proud teak tree.

The herbs stood upright and much stronger now. They felt sorry for their proud friend. They really wanted him to survive by bowing a little.

Moral of the story: Pride goes before a fall
