Short Story One: Civic Action By Individuals

Swetha and her friends were all set to go to a tour! Her mother was a teacher at a prestigious institution in Bangalore. Every summer, her mother, along with her friends who also happened to be teachers, would take their kids for a tour to some famous place. Last summer they had been to Badami, Aihole and Pattadakal. This summer they were planning to visit Agra! Though summer is not a very good time to visit Agra, as the weather will be very hot, they thought that it would be worth a visit to one of the wonders of the world the Taj Mahal!

They had booked a flight from Bangalore to Delhi for their onward journey and had booked a train for their backward journey. The kids and moms were really excited. On reaching Delhi they halted for that day. The next day they started to Agra. When they reached The Taj mahal, there was a lengthy queue to buy the tickets. Sweata and her mom stood in the line. Suddenly, a group of people broke the queue and tried to get their tickets

But, after a small argument they managed to get the tickets. After entering the gate, they stood before one of the most beautiful monuments of the world! Made of white marbles, stood a huge symmetrical structure, with the gardens, the pool, the intricate carvings on each wall, the and the Yamuna River to add to the beauty. Everyone enjoyed the view to the maximum extent. After roaming around, they sat at a place. There, they saw a group of people touching and plucking the flowers in the garden completely ignoring the sign board which stated not to touch or pluck flowers. They saw some other people throwing waste on the grass and the floor inside the premises but not using the dustbins which were installed.

Seeing all this, Sweata’s mother took a picture of these mishappening and raised a complaint at the help desk section of the office of Taj mahal. The officers appreciated her for doing so. They  also identified the people who did those wrong deeds and levied a penalty on them. The children were inspired by her action and promised that they would always protect the public properties, because it belonged to all of them!
