5 Ways to Instill in Your Children the Value of Giving

This is the season to give! The holidays are an excellent opportunity to teach children the value of giving. Teaching your children about donating is an excellent method to instill empathy and compassion for others.

Giving has numerous health benefits for youngsters. Giving to others in need improves one's physical health, happiness, and sense of well-being when done on a regular basis. Giving additionally:

  • Encourages self-esteem and a sense of purpose.
  • Enhances a person's ability to deal with stress.
  • Improves self-esteem and encourages positive conduct
  • Introduces children to positive role models who can offer encouragement and support.

Here are some of our favorite holiday giving opportunities.

Toys can be donated. Toy gifts to Nationwide Children's Hospital both brighten and help patients heal. Donate one of our most popular patient toys or an emotional support toy to one of our patients in need.
Send a card of goodwill. A card of kindness, as well as a toy, might brighten a patient's day this Christmas season. Choose a kindness card to send to our patients, which will also be displayed in the hospital for all to see throughout the holidays.

Give of yourself. One of the best ways to give back during the holidays is to volunteer. Learn about hospital volunteering opportunities here, or help our partner behavioral health organizations who may use a helping hand this holiday season.
Fundraise! Fundraise for the hospital on Facebook or encourage philanthropy in your children by giving them the opportunity to fundraise for the hospital together. We have plenty of suggestions to get you started.

Please show your support! Giving spreads like wildfire. Encourage others to join you in giving back during the Christmas season, and spread the gift of giving! Use the hashtag #OnOurSleeves on any of your social media platforms to share how you are giving back.
