THAILAND GEOGRAPHY AND CLIMATE

Thailand presents a varied landscape of forested mountains, dry plateaus, fertile river plains, and sandy beaches. Mountain ranges extend along the border with Myanmar and down to Malaysia.

Thailand enjoys a tropical climate which is influenced by seasonal monsoon winds. The southwest monsoon brings a stream of warm moist air from the Indian Ocean toward Thailand, causing abundant rain over the country, especially in the mountainous regions.

THAILAND PEOPLE, CULTURE, AND FOOD

The Hmong, the Karen, the Lisu, the Mien, the Akha, the Lahu, the Lua, the Thin, and the Khamu are the recognized indigenous peoples of Thailand. There are more than 30 ethnic groups in Thailand, with Thai ethnicity accounting for approximately 95% of the population. Within the Thai ethnic group, there are descendants from many races, such as Chinese, Mon, Khmer, Lao, and Indian.

The culture of Thailand has evolved greatly over time. Indian, Chinese, Burmese, Khmer, and other Southeast Asian influences are still evident in traditional Thai culture.

Pad Thai is the national dish of Thailand. This fried noodle dish is cheap and delicious and is mixed in peanut sauce with either chicken or shrimp. Like most other Asian cuisines, rice is the staple grain of Thai cuisine.

THAILAND FLAG

The flag of the Kingdom of Thailand shows five horizontal stripes in the colors red, white, blue, white, and red, with the central blue stripe being twice as wide as each of the other four. The color red stands for the land and people, white for religions, and blue for the monarchy.

THAILAND FLORA AND FAUNA

The land is highly biodiverse, with around 10,000-12,000 plant species. Common trees found in Thailand are the Banyan Tree, Buttress roots tree, Samanea saman tree, Thailand Rubber Trees, Bili Tree, and Flame of the Forest. Some native flowers are Orchids, Frangipani, Krachiao, Jasmine, Bat flower, and Hibiscus.

Thailand is home to more than 10% of the world's animals. There are more than 285 mammal species including elephants, tigers, leopards, Malaysian sun bears, sambars, deer, and otters as well as a variety of primate species including gibbons, monkeys, and macaques. Sheep, goats, wild cattle, and wild hogs are also common.

THAILAND POPULAR SPORT

Golf and Football is the most popular Thai sport apart from badminton, football, boxing, snooker, tennis, and bowling. Traditional games of Thai boxing, kite-fighting, boat racing, and take are also practiced in Thailand.

THAILAND TOURIST ATTRACTION

Bangkok National Museum: This museum, considered the largest in Southeast Asia, houses a vast collection of antiquities including prehistoric art, murals, bronzes, exhibits from other Asian countries, and ceremonial carriages used by royal families.

Golden Temple and Golden Buddha Statue, Bangkok: Located in the Wat Muang temple in Ang Thong Province, this statue stands 92 m (300 ft) high, and is 63 m (210 ft) wide. The statue is painted gold and made of concrete.

Thai Tuk Tuk: Tuk tuks are motorized 3-wheeled rickshaws that ferry passengers around Bangkok and most other places in Thailand. The name comes from the sound their engines make, as they splutter through the city streets.

Songkran: Songkran is the Thai New Year's national holiday. Songkran is on 13 April every year. Songkran isn't just a water festival. It's an important religious celebration and part of the Thai cultural identity that dates back thousands of years.
