Short Stories for Kids - Shortcut to Success

Samy and Anu had just gotten married. Samy lived by himself , while Anu lived with her mother, father and younger sister. After she got married she moved into Samy’s house.

Samy was a very kind person. He was a great husband to her. He had one issue though, he would spend a lot of time thinking about finding a magical object that would bring him instant money. He would spend a lot of money trying to find this object. He had a set of “friends” too who told him about one or the objects and he would go chasing that.

Anu had always made and sold vadas in her parent’s house to make some pocket money. She realised that Samy was spending a lot of money in trying to find the magical object and so she would have to re-start her business to run the house.

Anu started her business and she realised that she did not have any help from Samy. She was frustrated . One day, she went to her mother and complained about Samy. She just could not manage everything.

This was before the time of electricity, so Anu had to grind the vada batter with her hand, this was strenuous and she just wasn’t able to do that and manage the selling of the vadas. Anu’s mother was a very smart woman, she told Anu that she had a plan to make Samy help her.

The next day, Anu took Samy to her parents place. Anu’s mother spoke kindly to Samy and enquired about his quest for a magical object that would make him rich instantly. Samy was instantly overjoyed that his mother in law was taking interest in his venture. He explained what all he had done and how he had failed.

Anu’s mother said, she had been reading some ancient texts on the art of making riches instantly and she could help him. Samy was very happy. Anu’s mother said, “ You need to grind the pulses for making vada with your own hands. Once the pulses are fully grounded, you need to take a handful of the batter and bury it under the banyan tree everyday. One day, in the same spot an object will sprout and that object can make iron into gold.It would be an alchemical process”

Samy was so overjoyed. From teh very next day, he started grinding the pulses and he would take a handful of the batter and bury it. As Anu’s business grew, so did the amount of batter to be made. This made Samy very happy cause, he thought this will make the magical object appear faster.

After a year or so, Samy got frustrated that the object had still not sprouted and complained to his mother in law. Anu, who had also visited, opened her bag. From inside she took a box and it was filled with gold ornaments. Samy was completely shocked. He asked her how she had gotten the magic box.

Anu laughed and explained,”  This is not a magical box. We worked hard and our business grew. I saved the money from the business and bought these jewels.” Samy was speechless and he understood that there was no magic object to make him rich. All he needed to do was work hard and save.

Samy thanked his mother in law and focussed all his energies in building the vada business with his wife. They lived a comfortable and happy life together.
