Building a growth mindset with these short stories for kids

Elephant and the Rope

The story of the elephant and the rope illustrates how conditioning and limiting beliefs can prevent us from realising our full potential.

In the story, a guy stumbles upon an elephant that is bound by a thin rope

The elephant could easily break free from the rope, but it makes no attempt to do so.

Curious, the man inquires of the nearby trainer why the elephant doesn't try to escape. The elephant's trainer adds that when it was a baby, the same rope was used to tie it up, and it lacked the strength to release itself.

The young elephant tried to release itself when it was young, but it was not able. Soon, the elephant decided that the rope is too strong and it wont be able to get free and gave up trying,

As the elephant grew up, his strength grew but he had already made up his mind about the rope and never tried again and so was never able to release it sef

Moral of the story:

In this short story the elephant has developed a fixed mindset about his strength at a very early age. Because of this he doesnt try to break free even as he grows older. This is a perfect story to tell kids that one should never give up something as something they cant do. All things can be done with enough practice and patience

A person with a growth mindset believes that his brain is growing and his skills and abilities can grow with practice. On the other hand, the fixed mindset person believes that one is born with skills and is either good or bad at something.

If you have the former mindset then you can grow and develop into a great individual and lead a fulfilled life. It is important to develop this mindset in kids
